Nigeria has to import about 0.7 million metric tons of fish valued at about $500 million annually to augment the shortfall in fish production. The most commonly cultured species of fish in Nigeria includes catfish (Clarias garleplnus), imported tilapia and carp. Despite these considerably high potentials, local fish production has failed to meet the country's domestic demand due to several reasons such as insufficient investments and lack of basic fish farm training amongst other factors.
Lukuluku fish farm is a new start up which aim at providing the Nigerian populace food through fish production starting from the localities of Kontagora, Niger State to other parts of the country. Since, the high demand for fish cannot be met by the current local productions and imports have pushed the market price of catfish beyond the reach of ordinary Nigerians hence;
Lukuluku fish farm intends on bridging the gap between the demand and supply of fish to mankind and providing quality fishes at affordable prices. The target market includes every single human because protein is a very essential component for the body.
Lukuluku fish farm officially started its practice January, 2016 and the estimated date for first harvest will be May/June 2016.
