FEATHERS FROM BABCOCK! as a student writes about convocation!

Preparation Day
I
Preparation Day:
Stacks of plastic upon plastic,
Scrolls of polyester upon rusted poles,
Weary cars and sleeping drivers,
And no land to park on;
Robes of (good) pride—freedom!—
Parade along with the evening breeze...
Ixora and dandelion flowers.

II
Convocation Day:
The saints are marching out,
Some with honours, some without.
Faces with smiles abut tears of joy;
Gorgeous gowns and splendid suits,
Proud guardians and excess foods.

Engraved in our hearts are the lessons
You taught...

Like the petals of the ixora and dandelion flowers,
These stallions depart from this world of ours
To begin a new one.
