The Veterinary Council of Nigeria (VCN) has sent an accreditation team to the University of Ilorin to access the facilities at the institution’s Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.
The team, led by Prof. Patrick Onyeyih of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Agriculture, Makurdi, arrived Ilorin last Tuesday (September 9, 2014).
Other members of the Accreditation Team included the VCN Registrar, Dr. Makun Auny; Dr. Timothy Onoja, Dr, Shehu Bawa, Dr. (Mrs.) R. A. Adulugbo, and Prof. Bayo Adeyanju.
Speaking during a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali, the leader of the team said that the visit was also meant to rob minds with the staff of the Faculty.
Prof. Onyeyih recalled that during the accreditation team’s earlier visit to the University in 2012, it gave the institution permission to commence the Veterinary Medicine programme. He said the current visit, which is the second stage, is specifically designed to ascertain how far the University had followed the laid-down rules and procedures guiding the establishment of the Veterinary Medicine Faculty.
He commended the authorities of the University of Ilorin for its overwhelming achievements in the areas of teaching, research and community development and especially on the University’s recent rating as the best in the country.
In his response, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Management Services), Prof. Yisa Fakunle, said that the University had been doing its best to carry out all the directives the accreditation team gave it in 2012 regarding the establishment of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor thanked the team leader for rejoicing with the University over its recent ranking as Nigeria’s best University and disclosed that the authority is working assiduously towards making sure that Unilorin becomes one of the 100 best universities in the world.
