This news is coming late but I thought y'all should know the details as it was a season of multiple accreditations at the Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), at the weekend, as the Computer Professionals (Registration Council) of Nigeria, the professional body responsible for accrediting computer programmes in Nigeria, accredited ABUAD’s computer programme.
Just as the CPN accreditation was being celebrated, the news also came that the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the body responsible for engineering practice in Nigeria, has approved the seven engineering programmes following its last month’s pre-Accreditation visitation to the four-year old university.
The downpour of accreditations is coming on the heels of a similar one on June 17, 2013 when the NUC granted a 100 per cent accreditation for all the 14 programmes the same university presented for accreditation.
A statement signed by Mr Tunde Olofintila, Director of Public Affairs of the institutionexplained that the beauty of the CPN professional accreditation was that it afforded the university’s Computer Science students theopportunity to run their degree and professional programmes simultaneously.
This affords them the opportunity to graduate with two different certificates, one academic and the other professional.
In a July 9, 2013 letter entitled, ‘Accreditation of Undergraduate Engineering programmes,’ COREN’s Registrar, Mr Kamilu Maliki, conveyed the council’s approval to the university following the pre-accreditation visitation to the undergraduate engineering programmes to wave-making citadel of higherlearning last month.
